A native of South Portland, Maine, Barry started running distance in high school and continued at Dartmouth College where she claimed 1996 Ivy League Champion in the 10,000m and 1996 New England Champion in the 5,000m. Barry moved to Maine in 2005, and met her training partner Sheri Piers shortly thereafter. Kristen has been a long-time competitive distance runner, she coaches youth cross country in Scarborough and boys and girls cross country at Cheverus High School. Kristen is currently employed at LeBlanc & Young as an estate planning paralegal. Kristin’s accomplishments are many! Here are a few.
- 2015 Placed 5th Boston Marathon Masters Division
- 2008 Had a Maine Course Record in the Beach to Beacon
- Kirsten has qualified and competed in two Olympic Trials
A Maine native, Piers was a high school cross country champion, but didn’t really emerge in the larger running world until a breakthrough performance at the Philadelphia Marathon in 2007, where she finished eighth and qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Boston, where she placed 16th. Along with many recent masters awards, including masters titles at the Twin Cities Marathon the past three years, this past February’s Olympic Marathon Trials will be her third. Piers says she keeps running because it keeps her healthy—so she can keep caring for everyone else. Sheri is the Medical Director at St. Joes College.
