Education Grant

To provide affordable and accessible CDT (Complete Decongestive Treatment) training for therapists in underserved areas, to provide affordable and accessible CDT treatment for cancer patients/survivors, and to provide a network of therapists in Maine for consultation. Scholarship for 6 students and supplies.

Financial Assistance for Unmet Needs of Breast Cancer Patients

To provide financial assistance for breast health/breast cancer related services or items to underserved women throughout Maine via the Coalition’s Support Service Fund. MBCC established this fund in 2000 after long-term collaboration with cancer organizations and many women helped MBCC recognize the need for a responsive form of assistance to women who have traditionally ‘fallen through the cracks.’ Funds cover a variety of needs including insurance deductibles, new breast prosthesis, treatment for lymphedema, cost of chemotherapy, etc.

Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

To provide patient support for economically disenfranchised, rural women with breast cancer and their families, offering comfort and educational information about options and resources available locally, statewide and nationally. Two techniques will be employed: 1) each woman diagnosed with breast cancer will receive a Cancer Resource Kit, 2) resources will be established at the new library at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Supplemental funding from Susan G. Komen Foundation, allied support from ACS, and Maine Breast Cancer Coalition. $5,000 (partial) for education resources.
