Green-Blue

While Tri for a Cure remains virtual for year 14, recent changes to CDC, state, and local guidelines have enabled us to invite participants for an in-person 5K! This untimed 5K will follow the traditional Tri for a Cure course on the campus of SMCC at 8:30AM on Sunday, July 18. We invite those who have raised $250 by that date to join us in celebration of your efforts. Walk or run together safely and also pick up your fundraising prizes. Please note: this event replaces the previously scheduled July 31 pickup date. If you are unable or choose not to attend, prizes can be picked up in Falmouth at Maine Cancer Foundation after this date.

Timeline: We'll open up check-in at 7:00AM. Please plan to arrive no later than 7:45AM so you can be checked in before the opening ceremony at 8:00AM.

Parking: Parking is in the student parking lot A on the corner of Broadway and Benjamin Pickett. Follow signs and volunteers :-)

Check In: Everyone will need to check in, sign a 5K waiver, and receive a bracelet. NOTE: this is different from the waiver for your virtual Tri.

Bib: The event is untimed, but bring your assigned bib with you so the announcer can call your name when you cross the finish!

Fundraising Prizes, T-Shirts, and Medals: We will open up the fundraising tent for t-shirts, medals, and prizes at 9:00AM and will remain open until 11:00AM.

Masking: Masks are required at SMCC if you are in a dense crowd. We ask that you bring a mask in your pocket in case you are in a crowded area. We will work to space everyone out so that this is not an issue. Additionally, please review the visitor health questionnaire below before arriving.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I thought the Tri was virtual... It is! You will will complete your swim, bike, and run on your own schedule in July. If you would like to participate in the 5K it can either serve as your run leg or you can do it in addition to your triathlon. When restrictions eased up we wanted to give women the opportunity to celebrate in person.
  • Who can participate? Any registered participant who has raised $250 or more on or before 5pm on Friday, July 16 is invited to come. Remember, fundraising is done at the individual level, not per team.
  • How do I sign up? If you have raised $250 or more, email Julia Bachelder ([email protected]) to let us know you'll be attending!
  • Is this event timed? No. In keeping with the spirit of the virtual Tri for a Cure, this 5K is not timed. So you can walk or run at your own pace. Not able to walk the full 5K? That's ok! You can also just come to walk or run down the finish chute!
  • What else is happening? Before the 5K starts we'll have an opening ceremony starting at 8:00. We'll recognize the top 10 fundraisers on "The Wall" - it won't be the water front wall, but we want to celebrate these incredible fundraisers in a new location. We'll also have music and a mini expo area and Tri for a Cure gear for sale.
  • Where do I get my t-shirt and prizes? Anyone who raised $250 or more by June 1 is invited to pick up your shirt and medal at Maine Cancer Foundation (170 US Route 1 in Falmouth) on June 28, 29, or 30. Remaining t-shirts and medals, as well as all fundraising prizes, will be available for pickup after the run at SMCC on Sunday, July 18.
  • Are you still mailing bibs and tattoos? Very important! We are mailing bibs and tattoos this weekend. You can wear your bib when you do your triathlon and you should bring it with you on July 18 so the announcer can say your name when you cross the finish line.
  • Do the same rules apply that do at the Tri? Because this 5K is not USAT sanctioned, we are a little more flexible. Headphones are permitted but not recommended (chat with other women!), strollers are permitted for walkers if you start from the back of the group. Dogs are not permitted.
  • Do I need to wear a mask? Masks are not required outside on the SMCC campus unless you find yourself in a densely packed area. For this reason we will ask that everyone maintain space when possible. Please plan to tuck a mask in your pocket just in case!
  • Can I do my swim and bike that morning? No, the SMCC campus will be closed for our event. Please do not plan to swim and bike the traditional course at SMCC the morning of July 18. If you want to do your swim, bike, and run together, do them on a different day and then make the Tri for a Cure 5K a bonus run or walk.
